V-day Heart Shirt

Inspired by the many rosette projects I've seen, I decided to make a cute Valentine's day shirt for my niece.

 Supplies:
Basic T Shirt
Choice of fabric
Flower template
Scissors
Old white T shirt
Glue Gun
Needle and Thread

1. I had this hot pink shirt that I bought and never used. I used a cardstock flower template to cut out most of the shirt into flowers.  Then I just loosely folded each flower in quarters and applied some hot glue to the very end so that the flower would not come undone.

2. I cut out a 10 inch heart from an old white t shirt and glued all the petals so that I would get an even heart.
3. Finally I used the a needle and thread to sew the heart unto my niece's shirt.

The shirt took me about two nights to cut out all the petals, but it ended up looking beautiful and my niece really liked it.

Owl You Need Is Love

Back in December I saw THIS really neat idea for a teacher's gift.  Being a teacher myself, I really liked the idea for my son's first grade teacher.  So I bought everything I needed, but never got around to doing anything. Well, I decided to do a Valentine's gift instead.
Items:
Clear photo acrylic frame
Post it notes
Cool background
Cardstock

First, I printed a background unto the cardstock, and I also added the saying using Word (all you have to do is figure out the placement of the words, HERE is the link to the backgound).

Next, I had decided to cut out the owls, tree branch, and heart on the cricut.  Later I decided that it was too tedious to cut the tiny owls on the cricut, so I decided to print them out and cut them by hand. On the branch I added a couple of hearts as leaves as well. (I used Create a Critter for the branch and heart ).  I also embossed the heart with the cuttle bug.
Lastly, I inserted the cardstock in the frame, and attached the post-it block with my ATG gun. You can use pop dots or double-sided tape as well.
I've got to admit that took me quite a while and some trial and error, but overall I really like the finished project. If you are short of time all you have to do is print some sort of background that you like or use patterned cardstock and it would save you tons of time.
Thanks to http://smilemonsters.blogspot.com for the excellent idea!

Christmas ornaments

This year I decided to personalize our Christmas Tree with some handmade ornaments. I have seen some really great ideas and decided to give it a try.

I found the paper snowflakes for $0.50 and this embossed pearlescent paper for $1.00 at Hobby Lobby.
First, I traced the snowflake onto the backside of the paper and cut them out. Then, I colored the brown snowflakes white or blue so that the edges would match the color of the paper. Once the paint dried, I coated them with Mod Podge and attached the paper to the flake. I bought five snowflakes, and painted two of them blue. Very easy and simple. I also added as finishing touch my son's picture using Cricut printable vinyl (see below).

I also decided to BORROW the glitter ornament idea I have seen in several blogs, and cut out some vinyl figures from the Christmas Cricut Gypsy download.

I used Kricut Krazy's video tutorial for these and cut out the figures at 2.5 in.

Finally, here is how I made the vinyl picture ornament.
Materials: Cricut printable vinyl for Cricut Imagine, circle cutter, trimmer and a glittered ornament.

I trimmendthe printable vinyl at 4x6 and printed the photo on it. Then, I cut a 2 1/16 in circle.

Peeled off the backing and adhered it to the ornament.

I think everything turned out great, a fun, simple way to personalize your Christmas Tree!

2010 Christmas Tree Decoration

I finally took pictures of our Christmas Tree. For the past five years we have bought a natural tree, I always ended up decorating it with every color on the rainbow. This year, I decided to go with a silver and blue theme and am very pleased at how it turned out. Some of the decorations are new, others I already had, and this year I also decided to make my own ornaments. Here's a picture of how it turned out.

Here's a picture of my boy admiring the ornaments.

Welcome to Beg, Borrow, or Steal!

Hi, welcome to Beg, Borrow, or Steal, my name is Karina, and I am an amateur blogger, crafter, mother, wife, shoe enthusiast, and full-time middle school teacher. Recently I've gotten hooked on blogs and thought of starting my own. I thought that Beg, Borrow, or Steal was an appropriate title because I am just amazed at the creativity and cleverness of other bloggers. I hope to learn a lot from them and put my own "spin" on it. This blog will hopefully help me document my new projects.
